Troop 290 is a very active, highly decorated troop and an integral part of the Colts Neck community. We have had the honor of presenting the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank in scouting, to 87 scouts since 1972. Additionally, the Troop is a prominent participant in the Order of the Arrow, scouting’s National Honor Society.
Troop meetings are held every Sunday night from 7:00 to 8:30pm. Trips are held once a month from September through June. We’ve been to local camp sites, High Point NJ, West Point Camporee, NJ State Police Camporee, Gettysburg and other great places. Activities include fishing, hiking, orienteering, skiing, boating, and many more. Each summer, the troop spends a week at Forestburg Summer Camp, where swimming, canoeing, archery, target shooting, rock climbing and walking across the monkey bridge lead the list of great activities the scouts enjoy.
As the scouts progress in their skills and rank, they have the opportunity to go to the really cool High Adventure Bases, such as Philmont (hiking in the New Mexico Rocky Mountains), Florida Sea Base (boating and scuba diving in the Florida Keys or Bahamas), The Summit (great outdoor activities, such as white water rafting, mountain biking, zip lining, etc. in West Virginia) and Northern Tier (canoeing and hiking in Minnesota and Canada). National and international jamborees are also available to the scouts.
